Health & Wellness Manager, Meijer

For the past 25 years, Shari has worked as a dietitian in the grocery industry and has served as the Healthy Living Manager for the Grand Rapids, Michigan-based retailer, Meijer, since 2003. Meijer is a leader in the grocery and supercenter industry with 213 stores in the Midwest states of Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky and soon to be in Wisconsin. In her role, Shari manages consumer health communication, community events, nutrition programs, and solution-selling strategies with a team of four other dietitians that comprise the Meijer Healthy Living Team.

Shari serves as a nutrition expert and corporate spokesperson for Meijer, providing food and nutrition advice through monthly television spots on ABC, NBC and FOX affiliates and local radio segments. Her team is also responsible for conducting numerous educational presentations to community groups and professional organizations throughout the Midwest. The Meijer Healthy Living Team’s timely nutrition and food product information reaches millions of consumers annually through these presentations, but also through educational brochures and strategic social media messages.

Most recently, Shari and her team created the “Simply Cook” book to assist low income consumers with planning and creating easy, affordable, healthy meals. The book has received many positive accolades from community health educators and over 150,000 copies will be distributed to individuals and through local food banks.

Shari holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Dietetics from Central Michigan University and a Master of Science Degree in Human Nutrition from Andrews University in Michigan. She is an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Michigan Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition to serving on the National Turkey Federation’s Nutrition Advisory Board, she also serves as an advisory board member for the Retail Dietitians Business Alliance and as a Supermarket Dietitian Advisor for the Can Manufacturers Institute.

Janice is coauthor of two award winning cookbooks: No Whine with Dinner: 150 Healthy, Kid-Tested Recipes from The Meal Makeover Moms (M3 Press, 2011) and The Moms’ Guide to Meal Makeovers: Improving the Way Your Family Eats, One Meal at a Time! (Broadway Books, 2004), and the new recipe App, Meal Makeovers, featuring family-friendly recipes for people on the go.

She is past president of the Massachusetts Dietetic Association and past chairman of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetic’s Food & Culinary Professionals practice group. In 2015, Janice and her coauthor, Liz Weiss, were honored with the Media Excellence Award from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She writes for Relish Magazine and Live Well Digest and appears in and is quoted regularly in the media.

As co-host of the bi-weekly radio podcast, Cooking with the Moms (nominated by IACP as the best Culinary Audio Program of 2011), and an information-packed award winning blog, Meal Makeover Moms’ Kitchen, Janice’s mission is to help busy families eat a healthy and delicious diet. Janice formerly served as nutrition consultant to the U.S. Senate Restaurants and lives outside of Boston with her husband and two daughters, ages 23 and 16.

Dietitian Manager, Skogen’s Festival Foods

Lauren is a nationally accredited, state-certified Registered Dietitian-Nutritionist. As the Dietitian Manager at Skogen’s Festival Foods, she leads the regional dietitian team in developing innovative nutrition programs across the company. Lauren partners with national organizations and movements to promote good nutrition through a wide variety of media, including television and social. She also collaborates with a variety of community groups, including health care systems, schools, government agencies, area businesses, non-profit organizations and universities, to help community members learn to shop smarter in the supermarket. She designs and conducts group and individual nutrition and culinary classes, events, store tours and presentations in the community. Lauren is very passionate about helping people find achievable ways to live longer, healthier, happier lives.

Lauren is committed to giving back to her profession. She serves on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and a preceptor to dietetic students and interns annually. She is also on the advisory committee for the Wellness and Health Promotions program at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College.

Lauren received Produce for Better Health Foundation’s Supermarket Dietitians of the Year award in 2015, which recognizes the top supermarket registered dietitians and/or health and wellness staff for their support of Fruits & Veggies—More Matters and of the collective goal of the increasing the sale and consumption of fruit and vegetables.

Bonnie is the award-winning author of Read It Before You Eat It and Owner of BTD Nutrition Consultants, LLC. She is a media personality, spokesperson, motivational speaker, journalist, and corporate consultant whose messages are laced with her culinary passion as a foodie, her credible guidance as an advisor and her wit and wisdom as a mom.

Bonnie is a Health & Wellness Blogger and Contributor for, US News & World Report, Everyday Health and Her stories, quotes, and interviews have appeared in all forms of media comprised of television and radio shows and print and online platforms.

She is an advisor to global corporations, food companies, and media outlets, writing stories, creating media/social media campaigns, devising wellness programs, and conducting workshops for health professionals and consumers.

On a personal note, Bonnie is grateful to be able to do what she loves every day. She is married and has three sons…all foodies!

Karen is the owner and principal consultant at Nutrition Connections LLC. With specialized focus in retail nutrition marketing and communications, she provides strategic counsel and a variety of services to food companies, commodity groups, PR agencies, supermarkets and retail dietitians nationwide. A recognized trailblazer as one of first supermarket dietitians, Karen co-authored the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ new, 2015 Certificate of Training Program: “Supermarket Business and Industry Skills to Thrive in Retail Dietetics.” Karen is immediate past Chairman of the Supermarket/Retail Subgroup within the Academy’s Food and Culinary Professionals Dietetic Practice Group and was recently nominated by her peers for a 2015 Excellence in Practice Award.

As a thought-leader in retail dietetics, Karen regularly shares her views and insights as an editorial board member for Nutrition 411, as a contributing author to Progressive Grocer magazine, RDBA Weekly, various blogs and newsletters and as a speaker at various national symposia. She is a sought-after advisor to industry groups including the Egg Nutrition Center, National Turkey Federation and more.

Widely recognized as "The Weis Dietitian”, Karen was Director of Lifestyle Initiatives for a Weis, regional grocery store chain of 165 stores located in PA, MD, NY, NJ and WV. In this long-standing position, she was responsible for strategic planning for the company’s health and wellness initiatives, including the creation and launch of award-winning, innovative programs that deliver layered consumer brand messaging, nutrition education and positive ROI. Prior, as a Senior Marketing Manager for a national Sales and Marketing firm, she helped to establish seven new Supermarket Dietitian programs for various retailers in the Northeast.

Samantha is a Nutrition Marketing Specialist at Giant Eagle, where she develops programs and offers advice on healthy eating, food nutrition and safety, and meal ideas to customers. She promotes healthy lifestyles to customers of all ages through interactive, individualized sessions, group classes and store tours.

Samantha is a graduate of University of Pittsburgh with a BS in clinical dietetics and nutrition. Throughout her graduate studies, she worked extensively with Giant Eagle on the development and implementation of several nutrition programs. Her professional interests include adult weight management, family meal planning, and childhood nutrition and wellness. Samantha is an Adjunct Professor at the University of Pittsburgh and serves on the board of the Pittsburgh Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
